Name: James

Age: 10

Medium: Written/Spoken Word

My name is James and I am a ten year old with Cerebral Palsy. I may not run as fast as other kids or kick a ball real hard, but I still have fun every day.

It takes a lot of courage to know that I am going to fall sometime today. I usually bleed a lot when I do fall. But, I get right back up and keep on going. I never give up. Never.

It also takes a lot of courage to get those Botox shots injected into my leg muscles. It hurts a lot, but I know they will help me. When I was three years old, I could not jump at all. After the Botox, I could jump. I told my doctor that I could jump higher than Michael Jordan and through the roof of the United Center! That takes a lot of courage!

I had surgery on my Gastroc muscles and a tendon transfer when I was six years old. I had to go to PT every day the entire summer. I didn’t want to go that much. It was hard work for me then and it is now.

I feel pretty lucky that I wasn’t born with more tight muscles. It is a challenge every day, but I am not going to give up. I am always happy and I just love my life.
