Name: Sharon and Hayden

Age: 12

Medium: Written/Spoken Word

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing you this letter regarding my son, Hayden, who has cerebral palsy.

Being the older of a set of twins, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of one. Once he got older, he never let his handicap slow him down. He is always trying to do as his twin brother, Crayton, would do. There were a few times that he would cry if someone made fun of him, but he overcame that obstacle soon after he got into Junior High School.

At the age of 9, we had the option of surgery inserting the pump and using baclofen to help with the spasticity. The surgery was a little rough on him but the outcome was wonderful. He walks better and can move around better.

Hayden has always been a child with a good attitude considering he has been through many obstacles in his life. He is being raised by Sharon his mother, his older sister Kahlei and a twin brother Crayton. He loves his relationship with his family, including PaPaw, Nana, Uncle Perry, Aunt Dawn, Uncle Tim, and Cousins Eric and Amber.

He loves to sing, as one of the pictures show. One of the pictures he is singing with Jarrod and the other is our family with Jarrod. Hayden also loves the Cuero Gobbler Varsity Football Team, as the pictures show. He is considered a manager, tee boy, water boy and ball boy for this team.

As I am writing you this letter, Hayden is on his way to Dallas to show a pig in the State Fair of Texas. I wish that I had a picture of him there to send to you, but the deadline is near.

Hayden is very active and loves to do many things. I also wish that I had a picture of him with his PaPaw and his dirt bike. He has a Honda 70 and loves to ride!!!

As you can tell, Hayden is not scared of a thing and does not let his handicap get in the way of his life. He is very good in school with an “A” average and is in the Gifted and Talented Program.
